Dating: The Company Behind It

A practical way to compare who actually operates adult dating platforms, using legal entity, headquarters country, founding year and support routes as worked examples.

Start with the legal entity, not the brand name

A brand name on an app store tells you very little. The legal entity in the terms is the company you deal with if a payment goes wrong, if you want a refund, or if you decide to delete your profile and ask what happens to your data. Read that name before you read any price.

The list of brands in this guide has very different operators behind it. 3Fun is run by 3Fun Limited. 50plusmatch.be is run by MatchMedia BV. AfricanCupid sits under Cupid Media Pty Ltd. AdultFriendFinder appears as Various, Inc. None of these are interchangeable, and none of them share a complaints route with the others.

Where the company is based tells you which law applies

Headquarters country is a fair shortcut for which data protection rules and consumer law sit behind the account. It is not a quality score. A US base and an Australian base are two different regulatory conversations, and so is a company registered in Bulgaria.

Worked examples: AdultFriendFinder lists a headquarters in the US. AfricanCupid and AfroIntroductions both list Australia, and both sit under a Cupid Media company, with AfroIntroductions registered as Cupid Media PTY LTD. Amateri.com lists the Czech Republic, run by ScrumWorks s.r.o. Amanda lists South Korea under Linkhub Co., Ltd. Amigas Lindas lists Seychelles under Crix Ltd. ArabianDate lists Malta. Alastonsuomi lists Bulgaria under Minevra International LTD. 50plusmatch.be lists the Netherlands. AlbanianPersonals lists the US under World Singles, LLC.

A reader weighing privacy can use this as a filter. If you want a company outside the United States, the Australia-based pair and the Malta-listed ArabianDate cut the list quickly.

Age of the operator is a rough stability signal

A platform that has been trading for a long stretch has had time to get its billing and moderation wrong more than once, and to fix it. That is not a promise of good service. It only tells you the company has survived.

The spread across these brands runs from long-established operators to comparatively recent ones. ArabianDate reports a founding year of 1993. AdultFriendFinder reports 1996, the earliest of the dated operators here. AlbanianPersonals reports 2001, AfricanCupid and AfroIntroductions both report 2002, Amateri.com reports 2003, and Amanda reports 2014.

Support routes decide how fast a billing problem gets fixed

Price questions turn into billing problems, and a billing problem is only as fast as the slowest support channel the company offers. Email alone means you are waiting on one queue. A phone line, live chat or a help centre gives you options when the first option stalls.

The spread here is wide. Email is the only route for 3Fun, 4Date, Amanda and Amigas Lindas. Amateri.com and ALT.com publish a help centre and no direct contact route. The widest setups belong to AdultFriendFinder, with email, chat and phone, AlbanianPersonals, with email, phone and chat, and AnastasiaDate, with email, chat and phone. AfroIntroductions and 50plusmatch.be both publish email, phone and a help centre. AfricanCupid lists email and phone, and Alastonsuomi lists email and a help centre.

If you are signing up to a paid plan, treat the breadth of published routes as part of the price.

Put the checks together

Run the same set of questions on any platform in this category: what is the legal entity, which country is it headquartered in, how long has it been trading, and which support channels are published. If a brand publishes none of these, treat the missing answers as information in itself.

The AdultFriendFinder review shows a company that answers most of those questions. The AfroIntroductions review and the AfricanCupid review cover two brands owned by the same Australian operator, which makes them a useful pair to compare. The 3Fun review and the Alastonsuomi review cover smaller operators with narrower support routes, and the 50plusmatch.be review covers a single-market site run by a Dutch company.

Once the operator is clear, compare features and value in the wider adult dating and hookups ranking, and read the 4Date review if you want a brand that publishes email only. Adults only, and keep your own limits in view: decide the budget before the first message, not after.
